Shrewd Moves

  • New Jersey: Courtesy of thereisnospoon, Senator Frank Lautenberg wants to keep guns out of the hands of terrorists. Who would oppose that?

  • Nebraska: Chuck Hagel denies that his recent lunch with NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg was to discuss a possible independent Presidential ticket. Oh, by the way, that denial came via Bloomberg.com. While he denied that a ticket with Bloomberg was in the works, he says he is still considering an independent Presidential bid. How long until the next Bloomberg-Hagel lunch?

  • Alabama: Starting sometime between 6 and 6:30 tonight eastern time, Commissioner Ron Sparks will be holding his second liveblog on Daily Kos. His first liveblog saw much participation and garnered some very positive press. Check out this evening's event if you can.

those who would oppose Lautenberg's bill are those who don't want to see the terrorist watch lists validated by Democrats in any way, shape or form--and those who are afraid of a totalitarian move to put all progressives on such a watchlist.

To me, though, if the lists are being used to prevent people from getting on aircraft, the least we should be doing is preventing them from getting firearms. And if the GOP does pull an Emperor Palpatine on us liberals, the ability to purchase handguns with government sanction will be the least of our problems.

As for me, it's common sense--and a fantastic wedge to use against the GOP.
