DSCC On the Ball
May fundraising numbers are out and the DSCC once again trumped the NRSC in May. The DSCC took in $4.36 million compared to the NRSC's $3.32 million. At the end of May, the DSCC's cash on hand stood at over $14.25 million (with $5M in debt carried over from '06) compared to the NRSC's $4.26 million. The Guru continues to wonder what John Ensign does all day.
New Hampshire & Nebraska: Stu Rothenberg is reporting that evidence is pointing toward former Governor Jeanne Shaheen entering the New Hampshire Senate race and former Senator Bob Kerrey entering the Nebraska Senate race. Rothenberg is reporting only on indications, not concrete declarations, but they are good signs nonetheless that enhance Democratic chances for pick-ups in both states.
Kentucky: The Payback Project must be spooking Mitch McConnell because, despite indicating earlier support for immigration reform, McConnell is now backpedalling from the legislation. McConnell's giant campaign warchest isn't enough to buy him a spine.

Why hasn't the DSCC repaid its debt? They obviously have the cash on hand to afford it, and still be double the NRSC.
Jeanne Shaheen has confirmed that she is considering running for Senate. When someone confirmes that they are considering it, that means they are preparing to do it.
Confirming their consideration does not mean they are going to pull the trigger.
See Ron Sparks.
Also see Peter DeFazio, Artur Davis, Joe Atkins, etc., etc., etc.
Ok, then what about the Rothenberg Political Report, which states that now Sheheen is likely to run? Also says Kerrey is inching towards running.
They are quoting "insiders", who are of questionable veracity. Its impossible to tell whether these are 1) people who actually have inside scoop, 2) people who pretend to know more than they do in order to get attention from journalists and pundits, or 3) people being used by the candidate or the party to test the waters without actually investing anything.
Shaheen initially said "no", and at the time the same "insiders" who were quoted said that she was happy with her academic post and not likely to leave it. So in either case, someone who has the inside scoop is wrong.
You wonder what Ensign does all day?
He golfs.
Honestly, he's actually missed votes because of his golfing. The NV Dems created a nice logo last year when Jack Carter ran again him: John Ensign - Too busy golfing to care.

It was a shame he was reelected last year. The only good thing to come of his reelection is that he now chairs the NRSC. Nevada bloggers saw this coming when Ensign was announced as the new Liddy Dole.
